Site description (2012 baseline):

Site location and context
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Indonesia Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Pacific, Western Central FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 20391 km2 and is 66 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 105 to 5197 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 1.36 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 27.89 and 28.16 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.19 and 0.33 mg/m3.

Key biodiversity
8 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colony; Pulau Gunung Api include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Greater Frigatebird (LC) , Red-tailed Tropicbird (LC) , Bridled Tern (LC) , Sooty Tern (LC) , Masked Booby (LC) , Brown Booby (LC) , Red-footed Booby (LC) and Brown Noddy (LC) 0-22440 individuals.
