Site description
The IBA comprises the Po¾ana mountains, the eastern part of the Zvolenská basin and the western edge of the Veporské hills. Forests consist of Abies, Picea and Fagus and are interspersed with numerous meadows and rocky areas. The rural landscape of the Zvolenská basin supports traditionally managed meadow, pasture and old orchards. Forestry and extensive agriculture (haymaking and sheep-grazing) are the main land-uses.

Key biodiversity
An important site for breeding species of forest and open cultivated country. Ciconia nigra, Aquila pomarina, Alcedo atthis, Picus canus, Picoides tridactylus, Turdus torquatus, Sylvia nisoria, Ficedula albicollis and Lanius collurio also breed.
