A steppic area in the north-east of Lanzarote with scrub, drought-resistant grassland and saltpans. Human activities include cattle-grazing, and there is a designated military zone.
The site is one of the best sites in Lanzarote for Chlamydotis undulata
and other steppic species. The saltpans provide habitat for migrating and wintering waders and gulls (Laridae).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Threats include electric powerlines, jeep-safaris that cause disturbance to breeding birds, illegal hunting and poaching of Chlamydotis undulata
chicks. The area is a game refuge.
