Site description (2012 baseline)
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It falls within the Peru Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Pacific, Southeast FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 1197 km2 and is 22 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 1636 m, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 16 and 18.44 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 1.99 and 3.08 mg/m3.

4 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colony; Peruvian Colonies include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Peruvian Pelican (NT) , Guanay Cormorant (NT) , Humboldt Penguin (VU) and Peruvian Booby (LC).
