This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It falls within the Peru Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Pacific, Southeast FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 2668 km2 and borders the coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 1474 m, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 15.32 and 17.48 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 1.65 and 7.25 mg/m3.
