Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using both tracking data and seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It falls within the Falkland Islands (Malvinas) Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Atlantic, Southwest FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 5998 km2 and is 22 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 114 m and mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 5.62 and 7.59 °C.

Key biodiversity
5 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 9598-20156 individuals of Black-browed Albatross (EN) from New Island are present at the site during the Incubation (Oct-Jan) life-history stage. 1933-16916 individuals of Black-browed Albatross (EN) from Saunders Island are present at the site during the Incubation (Oct-Jan) and Post-guard (Jan-Jun) life-history stages. 30831-308315 individuals of Black-browed Albatross (EN) from Steeple Jason Island are present at the site during the Brood-guard (Jan-Feb) life-history stage. Seaward extensions around breeding colony; Pebble Island Group include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Sooty Shearwater (NT) 300-300 breeding pairs.
