This 4-km-long and up to 1-km-wide wetland is situated in an intensively farmed landscape lying upon alluvium from the Parí stream. The IBA is almost entirely covered by extensive beds of Phragmites, Typha and Carex and there are only a few areas of open water. Nature conservation, research and, in the last few years, selective cutting and harvesting of reeds Phragmites (`Other' land-use) are the only land-uses.
An important site for breeding wetland species; holds key Slovakian populations of Porzana parva and Acrocephalus melanopogon.
