The site covers an area of 22570 km2 and is 389 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 98 to 3659 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.57 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 8.33 and 9.87 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.22 and 0.45 mg/m3.

BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 34071-68143 individuals of Grey Petrel (NT) from Antipodes Islands are present at the site during the Breeding (Mar-Dec) life-history stage. 52941-148235 individuals of White-chinned Petrel (VU) from Antipodes Islands are present at the site during the Breeding (Oct-May) life-history stage.
