Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within the New Zealand Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Pacific, Southwest FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 114352 km2 and is 110 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 1180 to 4960 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.55 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 14.08 and 15.81 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.25 and 0.51 mg/m3.

Key biodiversity
4 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 103-294 individuals of Chatham Petrel (EN) from Chatham Islands/Rekohu/Wharekauri are present at the site during the Breeding (Dec-Jun) life-history stage. 1342-1917 individuals of Wandering Albatross (VU) from South Georgia are present at the site during the Sabbatical (Apr-Aug) life-history stage. 52941-127059 individuals of White-chinned Petrel (VU) from Antipodes Islands are present at the site during the Breeding (Oct-May) life-history stage. 1138-1463 individuals of Wandering Albatross (VU) from Iles Kerguelen are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Feb-Dec) life-history stage.
