Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within the New Zealand Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Pacific, Southwest FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 8034 km2 and is 134 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 625 to 2942 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.57 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 12.96 and 13.75 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.33 and 0.45 mg/m3.

Key biodiversity
7 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 1179-4041 individuals of Antipodean Albatross (VU) from Antipodes Islands are present at the site during the Brood-guard (Mar-May), Incubation (Jan-Apr) and Pre-egg (Feb-Apr) life-history stages. 1031-5186 individuals of Chatham Albatross (VU) from Chatham Islands/Rekohu/Wharekauri are present at the site during the Brood-guard (Oct-Dec) life-history stage. 103-294 individuals of Chatham Petrel (EN) from Chatham Islands/Rekohu/Wharekauri are present at the site during the Breeding (Dec-Jun) life-history stage. 1560-2127 individuals of Northern Royal Albatross (EN) from Chatham Islands/Rekohu/Wharekauri are present at the site during the Incubation (Oct-Feb) life-history stage. 1138-1463 individuals of Wandering Albatross (VU) from Iles Kerguelen are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Feb-Dec) life-history stage.
