This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within the New Zealand Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Pacific, Southwest FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 8095 km2 and is 313 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 500 to 1265 m, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 10.78 and 11.72 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.34 and 0.57 mg/m3.
2 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 2194-3900 individuals of Southern Royal Albatross (VU) from Campbell Island/motu Ihupuku are present at the site during the Incubation (Nov-Mar) life-history stage. 52941-127059 individuals of White-chinned Petrel (VU) from Antipodes Islands are present at the site during the Breeding (Oct-May) life-history stage.
