Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within the New Zealand Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Pacific, Southwest FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 5695 km2 and is 778 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 1057 to 4526 m, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 7.14 and 7.5 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.19 and 0.21 mg/m3.
Key biodiversity
3 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 34071-74957 individuals of Grey Petrel (NT) from Antipodes Islands are present at the site during the Breeding (Mar-Dec) life-history stage. 52941-137647 individuals of White-chinned Petrel (VU) from Antipodes Islands are present at the site during the Breeding (Oct-May) life-history stage. 1179-7765 individuals of Antipodean Albatross (VU) from Antipodes Islands are present at the site during the Pre-egg (Feb-Apr) life-history stage.
