The depth ranges from 0 to 2862 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.75 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 7.21 and 8.63 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.19 and 0.26 mg/m3.

BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 1179-7940 individuals of Antipodean Albatross (VU) from Antipodes Islands are present at the site during the Brood-guard (Mar-May), Incubation (Jan-Apr) and Pre-egg (Feb-Apr) life-history stages. 34071-74957 individuals of Grey Petrel (NT) from Antipodes Islands are present at the site during the Breeding (Mar-Dec) life-history stage. 52941-137647 individuals of White-chinned Petrel (VU) from Antipodes Islands are present at the site during the Breeding (Oct-May) life-history stage.
