The site covers an area of 15403 km2 and is 44 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 84 to 4479 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 3.48 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 4.98 and 7.59 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.21 and 0.94 mg/m3.

BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 1342-3067 individuals of Wandering Albatross (VU) from South Georgia are present at the site during the Sabbatical (Oct-May) life-history stage. 3093-23359 individuals of Grey-headed Albatross (VU) from Islas Diego Ramirez are present at the site during the Brood-guard (Dec-Jan) and Incubation (Oct-Dec) life-history stages. 9900-73581 individuals of Black-browed Albatross (EN) from Islas Diego Ramirez are present at the site during the Brood-guard (Dec-Jan) and Incubation (Sep-Dec) life-history stages.
