This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within the Ecuador Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Pacific, Southeast FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 2533 km2 and is 22 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 29 to 1884 m, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 22.39 and 22.93 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.82 and 1.36 mg/m3.
4 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 3-19 individuals of Waved Albatross (CR) from Ile de la Possession are present at the site during the Post-guard (Aug-Dec) life-history stage. 1200-2399 individuals of Parkinson's Petrel (VU) from Great Barrier Island/Aotea & Little Barrier Island/Hauturu are present at the site during the Non-breeding (May-Sep) life-history stage.
