The depth ranges from 0 to 7150 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 1.88 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 15.32 and 20.81 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.24 and 6.64 mg/m3.

BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 3366-4987 individuals of Waved Albatross (CR) from Isla Espanola are present at the site during the Incubation (Apr-Aug) life-history stage. 72000-160000 individuals of White-chinned Petrel (VU) from Antipodes Islands are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Jun-Aug) life-history stage. 3600-8182 individuals of Cook's Petrel (VU) from Codfish Island/Whenua Hou are present at the site during the Non-breeding (May-Aug, Oct) life-history stage. 3960-9240 individuals of Chatham Albatross (VU) from Chatham Islands/Rekohu/Wharekauri are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Apr-May) life-history stage. 860-896 individuals of Salvin's Albatross (VU) from Snares Islands/Tini Heke are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Feb-Jun) life-history stage.
