Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within High Seas International Waters and the Pacific, Northwest FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 11468 km2 and is 404 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 2478 to 6041 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.2 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 15.39 and 18.95 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.38 and 0.65 mg/m3.
Key biodiversity
2 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 3750000-4166667 individuals of Sooty Shearwater (NT) from New Zealand are present at the site during the Non-breeding (May-Jul) life-history stage. 19200-25600 individuals of Providence Petrel (VU) from Lord Howe Island are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Nov-Feb) life-history stage.
