Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within the USA Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Pacific, Eastern FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 6564 km2 and is 711 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 160 to 5236 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 1.9 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 24.64 and 25.11 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.06 and 0.08 mg/m3.
Key biodiversity
6 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 829-7567 individuals of Black-footed Albatross (VU) from Tern Island (in FFS) are present at the site during the Brood-guard (Jan-Mar) and Post-guard (Mar-Jul) life-history stages. 521-4056 individuals of Laysan Albatross (NT) from Tern Island (in FFS) are present at the site during the Brood-guard (Jan-Mar), Incubation (Nov-Feb) and Post-guard (Mar-Jul) life-history stages.
