Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within High Seas International Waters and the Pacific, Eastern FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 21034 km2 and is 1515 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 5483 to 6003 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.34 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 16.49 and 18.01 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.18 and 0.25 mg/m3.
Key biodiversity
3 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 863-2014 individuals of Black-footed Albatross (VU) from Tern Island (in FFS) are present at the site during the Incubation (Nov-Feb) life-history stage. 542-2259 individuals of Laysan Albatross (NT) from Tern Island (in FFS) are present at the site during the Incubation (Nov-Feb) life-history stage.
