Site description (2000 baseline)
An upland landscape supporting Fagus and Quercus forest, native montane coniferous forest and near-natural montane mixed forest (Fagus-Abies-Picea). Interspersed with these are areas of heathland, dry grassland, moist meadow, lightly improved meadow and pasture, raised bog, tarns and screes.

Key biodiversity
An important site for breeding species of upland habitats such as Falco peregrinus, Tetrao urogallus, Glaucidium passerinum and Aegolius funereus.
