It originates from the Norfolk Island (to Australia) Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Pacific, Southwest FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 11653 km2 and is 704 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 3104 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 1.99 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 20.73 and 21.28 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.13 and 0.29 mg/m3.
