An area of mainly grassland, with some scrub and agricultural land, situated in the north-east of El Hierro. Human activities include stock-farming.
The site is also important for Burhinus oedicnemus, endemic subspecies of several steppic passerines, and as a feeding area for raptors. It is one of the most important wintering and passage stop-over sites on the island.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Several main roads traverse the area, causing habitat degradation and disturbance to birds. Illegal hunting is also a problem.
