A large, mountainous area (both coastal and inland) in the southern Apennines, west of Castrovillari, practically uninhabited and mainly covered by broadleaved woodland and maquis. The main land-use is nature conservation.
The site is important for breeding raptors of forest, and possibly holds the southernmost breeding Dryocopus martius in Italy.
