Mount Siburan This is an IBA in Danger!

IBA Justification

The site was identified as important in 2001 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species'):
Species Current IUCN Red List Category Season Year(s) Population estimate at site IBA criteria met
Philippine Duck Anas luzonica VU resident 1990-1999 present A1
Mindoro Bleeding-heart Gallicolumba platenae CR resident 1990-1999 present A1, A2
Spotted Imperial-pigeon Ducula carola VU resident 1950-1959 present A1
Black-hooded Coucal Centropus steerii CR resident 1990-1999 present A1, A2
Mindoro Hornbill Penelopides mindorensis EN resident 1990-1999 20 individuals A1, A2
Scarlet-collared Flowerpecker Dicaeum retrocinctum VU resident 1990-1999 common A1, A2

The current IUCN Red List category may differ from that which was valid at the time of IBA criteria assessment (2001).

IBA Conservation

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment (most recent) State (condition) Pressure (threat) Response (action)
2018 unfavourable very high low
Was the whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
no habitat medium

State (condition of the trigger species' habitats)
Habitat Habitat detail Reference area (ha) Actual area (ha) Habitat quantity (% remaining) Habitat quality (carrying capacity) Result
Forest 130868 103966 - moderate (70-90%) unfavourable

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat level 1 Threat level 2 Timing Scope Severity Result
Agricultural expansion and intensification annual & perennial non-timber crops - shifting agriculture happening now majority/most of area/population (50-90%) moderate to rapid deterioration high
Biological resource use hunting & collecting terrestrial animals - unintentional effects (species is not the target) happening now majority/most of area/population (50-90%) very rapid to severe deterioration very high
Human intrusions and disturbance work and other activities happening now majority/most of area/population (50-90%) very rapid to severe deterioration very high
Natural system modifications dams & water management/use - abstraction of surface water (agricultural use) happening now some of area/population (10-49%) slow but significant deterioration medium
Other other threat happening now some of area/population (10-49%) slow but significant deterioration medium

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Protected-area designation Management planning Other conservation action Result
Some of site covered (10-49%) A management plan exists but it is out of date or not comprehensive Substantive conservation measures are being implemented but these are not comprehensive and are limited by resources and capacity low
