A mountain between the Thessalian plain and Aegean Sea. The north-east facing slopes are well forested, whilst the south-western slopes are dominated by scrub.
The site is important for its resident raptors and forest species. Breeding birds include nine of the 21 species that are restricted in Europe to the Mediterranean biome (when breeding). Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aquila clanga (wintering), Aquila heliaca (non-breeding).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are from infrastructure developments and more intensive forest management. The area is a candidate SAC.
