A rugged limestone mountain. The northern part is covered by extensive Pinus forest, other areas with fir Abies forest, and the higher parts with alpine grassland. The Kalavrita side of the mountain is used for winter tourism. Elsewhere the main activity is livestock-farming.
This is an important site for species associated with conifer forests, alpine pasture and upland rivers.
