Site description
The IBA comprises the Slovak part of the River Latorica and the lower sections of the Laborec and Ondava rivers. It covers an extensive complex of oxbow lakes, flood-plain forest, wet meadows, localized sand-dunes, artificial drainage canals and dykes. Hardwood forests of Quercus, Fraxinus, Ulmus and Carpinus are present in addition to softwood communities of Populus and Salix. Reedbeds consist of Phragmites, Typha and Carex, while Nymphaea, Nuphar, Trapa, Alisma and Stratiotes form open water communities. Human activities include cattle-grazing.

Key biodiversity
An important site for species of flood-plain forest and other riverine habitats. Botaurus stellaris, Ardea purpurea, Ciconia nigra, Pernis apivorus, Milvus migrans and other raptors, Porzana porzana, Porzana parva, Dendrocopos medius and Lanius minor also breed.
