Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using both tracking data and seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It falls within the Australia Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Indian Ocean, Eastern FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 12349 km2 and is 22 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 2268 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.67 m/s and mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 12.79 and 13.91 °C.

Key biodiversity
7 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 19286-46286 individuals of Short-tailed Shearwater (LC) from are present at the site during the Breeding (Nov-Apr) life-history stage. 1325-10598 individuals of Shy Albatross (NT) from Mewstone are present at the site during the Incubation (Sep-Dec) life-history stage. 45-412 individuals of Shy Albatross (NT) from Pedra Branca are present at the site during the Incubation (Sep-Dec) life-history stage. 278-321 individuals of Wandering Albatross (VU) from Iles Crozet are present at the site during the Juvenile (Jan-Jun) life-history stage. Seaward extensions around breeding colonies; Pedra Branca, Port Davey Islands, Maatsuyker Island Group include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Australasian Gannet (LC) 5273-10018 individuals, Black-faced Cormorant (LC) 1686-1686 individuals and Short-tailed Shearwater (LC) 7360575-8420793 individuals.
