Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Australia Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Pacific, Southwest FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 12803 km2 and is 523 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 4098 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.22 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 21.17 and 21.65 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.17 and 0.27 mg/m3.

Seaward extensions around breeding colony; Lord Howe Island include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Blue Noddy (LC) 150-2400 individuals, Flesh-footed Shearwater (LC) 52386-52386 individuals, Little Shearwater (LC) 12000-12000 individuals, Providence Petrel (VU) 96000-96000 individuals, Red-tailed Tropicbird (LC) 1500-3000 individuals and Wedge-tailed Shearwater (LC) 30000-300000 individuals.
