Site description (2000 baseline)
A complex of freshwater lakes (former peat-workings), wet meadows and marshland, located east of the city of Sneek. The site is adjacent to Terkaplesterpoelen and Akmarijp (059), and belongs to the same water-management unit as Lake Witte and Zwarte Brekken (060). This site, together with site 059, formed part of a larger site (former site NL022) in the previous pan-European IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989).
Key biodiversity
This is an important roost for geese Anser from surrounding feeding areas. Waterbird numbers quoted are rough estimates.
