Site description (baseline)
A shallow (1.5 m) eutrophic lake with a silt bottom, low banks and a high (40%) cover of emergent vegetation. It is encircled by a belt of fens, bushes and, in parts, wet forest. Listed as an IBA since 2000 [3, 1]. Almost fully protected: there is a 98.2% overlap with Viku fen restricted nature reserve, a candidate SPA. Most of the gap between IBA and pSPA boundaries is due to differences in methods in boundary setting.
