A large raised bog with some small lakes, surrounded by predominantly coniferous forests (mainly spruce Picea with some pine Pinus).
The site is important for mire-breeding species including Tetrao tetrix (with more than 50 displaying males, the largest concentration in Lithuania) and Pluvialis apricaria (min. 7 pairs), and supports large numbers of Grus grus on passage (up to 200 birds in autumn migration, 1995-1996).
