A shallow (<1 m), inland bay (lagoon) fringed by a low coastline of reedbeds, meadows and small islets in the southern part of Hiiumaa island, off the west coast of Estonia. Coastal meadows are used for cattle-grazing. There is a nature trail with three tower-hides.
The bay is an important staging site for migrating wildfowl and Grus grus. Nearly 90 bird species have been recorded breeding, including a wide variety of waterbirds.
