Site description (baseline)
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Oman Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Indian Ocean, Western FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 25596 km2 and is 22 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 3619 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 1.66 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 24.42 and 26.46 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.72 and 4.68 mg/m3.
5 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colonies; Juzor al Halaaniyaat, Jazirat Hino include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Sooty Gull (LC) 15000-30000 individuals, Red-billed Tropicbird (LC) 900-900 individuals, Audubon's Shearwater (LC) 10000-19999 individuals, Masked Booby (LC) 2475-33788 individuals and Socotra Cormorant (VU) 5850-12000 individuals.
