Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using both tracking data and seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It falls within the Chile Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Pacific, Southeast FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 652069 km2 and borders the coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 8087 m and with a mean annual wind speed of 1.92 m/s.

Key biodiversity
10 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 2352-2613 individuals of Northern Royal Albatross (EN) from New Zealand are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Year-Round) life-history stage. 72000-180000 individuals of White-chinned Petrel (VU) from Antipodes Islands are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Jun-Aug) life-history stage. 3000-4500 individuals of Westland Petrel (VU) from Punakaiki are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Nov-Feb) life-history stage. 6255-15638 individuals of Buller's Albatross (NT) from Snares Islands/Tini Heke are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Oct-Dec) life-history stage. 3960-9240 individuals of Chatham Albatross (VU) from Chatham Islands/Rekohu/Wharekauri are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Apr-May) life-history stage. 9900-10703 individuals of Black-browed Albatross (EN) from Islas Diego Ramirez are present at the site during the Incubation (Sep-Dec) life-history stage. 860-1613 individuals of Salvin's Albatross (VU) from Snares Islands/Tini Heke are present at the site during the Non-breeding (Feb-Jun) life-history stage. Seaward extensions around breeding colonies; Isla Mocha, Isla Pájaro Niño, Isla Guafo include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Peruvian Pelican (NT) 4049-6478 individuals, Pink-footed Shearwater (VU) 39000-57000 individuals and Sooty Shearwater (NT) 30000-30000 individuals.
