Site description
A 20-km long section of the River IJssel between the city of Zwolle and Lake Ketelmeer (039), which lies adjacent to site 046. The site includes the riverbed and the flood-plain (used for dairy farming), and is bounded by the winter dykes. Economic activities include sand and clay extraction. This site, together with site 040, formed part of a single, larger site (former site NL028) in the previous pan-European IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989).
