This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Canada Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Atlantic, Northwest FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 1882 km2 and borders the coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 157 m, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 7.35 and 8.29 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 1.61 and 4.76 mg/m3.
1 species triggers IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colonies; Portnova Islands, Rocks off Fourchu Head, Harbour Rocks, Northern Head and South Head include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Great Cormorant (LC) 1084-1626 individuals.
