Site description
A complex of freshwater lakes (resulting partly from peat diggings), reedbeds and wet meadows, located to the east of the city of Leeuwarden. Human activities include reed-harvesting (`Other' land-use, below), and the site includes two duck decoys.

Key biodiversity
An important roost for geese Anser which come from surrounding feeding areas.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
A compensation scheme is in place for those farmers affected by restrictions on agricultural practices.

Protected areas
National Partial International None462 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Ryptsjerkster- en Binnemiedepolder, 462 ha).
