Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
An area of well-drained lowland overlain by meadow, saline and sandy soils, situated between the Gerje and Körös streams south-west of the town of Szolnok. Saline grassland covers the majority of the IBA, interspersed by arable land, orchards, small saline lakes and abandoned rice-fields. Human activities include grazing, haymaking, arable farming, horticulture, fish-farming and hunting.

Key biodiversity
An important area for lowland farmland birds. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (4-5 wintering birds), Otis tarda (1-12 breeding individuals).

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are the drainage of wetlands, and disturbance to birds caused by hunting and other human activities. Wetland restoration works have been implemented, and the site is a proposed LPA.
