A small volcanic islet situated very close to the northern coast of Tenerife, with no infrastructure. It supports salt-tolerant vegetation, and an endemic Euphorbia species that is typical of semi-desertic habitats. Minor land-uses include hunting.
The site is important for breeding seabirds, and as a roosting site for wintering herons.
