Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Egypt Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Mediterranean and Black Sea FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 1186 km2 and is 22 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 9 m, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 22.58 and 22.75 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 3.61 and 5.38 mg/m3.

Key biodiversity
2 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colonies; El Malaha, Lake Manzala include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Little Tern (LC) 2250-4275 individuals and Slender-billed Gull (LC) 17100-17100 individuals.
