The site is included in the Senegalese Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The site overlaps partially with the Delta du Saloum UNESCO-MAB Biosphere Reserve.
Key biodiversity
Seaward extension of important colonies of Royal Tern, Caspian Tern, Slender-billed Gull and Grey-headed Gull. All the previous species tigger IBA criteria: Royal Tern (LC) 46925-79803 individuals, Caspian Tern (LC) 13744-22908 individuals, Slender-billed Gull (LC) 13547-22581 individuals and Grey-headed Gull (LC) 21958-36600 individuals.
