Site description
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Eritrea Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Indian Ocean, Western FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 2517 km2 and borders the coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 236 m and mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 27.69 and 28.36 °C.

Key biodiversity
2 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colony; Dehalak Archipelago and offshore islands include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of White-eyed Gull (NT) 1500-1500 individuals and Lesser Crested Tern (LC) 750-750 individuals.
