Site description (baseline)
A raised bog (1,055 ha) with forested peninsulas, several small lakes, surrounding forest stands (Pinus, Picea), and fish-ponds. Human activities include cranberry Vaccinium collecting, hunting, fishing, forestry and agriculture.
Key biodiversity
The area is important for migrant Cygnus cygnus (at least 500, possibly mixed with C. columbianus, recorded in spring) and for breeding Pandion haliaetus. Other migrating waterbirds are thought to occur at the fish-ponds in significant numbers, and Tetrao urogallus is said to breed at high density.
