It originates from the British Indian Ocean Territory Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Indian Ocean, Western FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 42552 km2 and is 1566 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 3924 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 1.58 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 27.74 and 28.36 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.11 and 0.77 mg/m3.
