Site description (2012 baseline)
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Australia Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Pacific, Western Central FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 28707 km2 and is 264 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 5 to 1008 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.05 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 26.21 and 26.68 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.07 and 0.29 mg/m3.

5 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colony; Coringa-Herald Reefs include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Black Noddy (LC) 15000-52800 individuals, Lesser Frigatebird (LC) 3000-6450 individuals, Red-footed Booby (LC) 1009-10047 individuals, Red-tailed Tropicbird (LC) 1167-1350 individuals and Wedge-tailed Shearwater (LC) 28500-58500 individuals.
