Site description (baseline)
An area on the Tyrrhenian coast, between Roma and Napoli, including four brackish lakes (Laghi Pontini) and surrounding marshes, rocky cliffs, sand-dunes and beaches, broadleaved and seasonally flooded woodlands, and maquis. Isola di Zannone, a small island that is part of the Circeo National Park, is included in the `Ponziane islands' IBA (site 122). The main land-uses are nature conservation, cattle-raising, tourism, cultivation and fish-farming.
Key biodiversity
The site is important for wintering and migrating waterbirds, most notably Numenius tenuirostris.
