Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A subalpine, mountainous area north of the town of Varese, covered mainly by broadleaved woodlands, with some streams and small lakes. The main land-uses are recreation and forestry.



Key biodiversity
The area is important mainly for species of woodland passerine and for some breeding raptors.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are urbanization, including the building of new infrastructure, and the abandonment of land management. The site is a candidate Special Protection Area.



Protected areas
National Partial International None5,400 ha of IBA covered by Regional Nature Park (Campo dei Fiori, 5,400 ha).
