Site description (2007 baseline)
A series of flooded medieval peat-diggings situated within the flood-plains of five principal river valley systems. The IBA comprises a mosaic of reed Phragmites, fringed shallow lakes, open water, fen habitats, carr woodland and grazing-marshes. The IBA is important for a wide variety of breeding and wintering birds.
