An alluvial island on the south bank of the River Po, connected to the shore by a narrow isthmus. It is covered mainly by shrubby Salix woodland, and bordered by reedbeds. The main land-use is nature conservation. The surrounding land is agricultural, mainly poplar Populus plantations.
The island holds an important mixed heronry of Nycticorax nycticorax, Egretta garzetta and Ardeola ralloides.
